Our Process

Green Beans: The Suppliers

When you buy a coffee from us you can choose whether you want the coffee as whole beans or whether you would like it ground. Coffee is best drunk fresh and so, ideally, it should be ground immediately before consumption. Unfortunately, we don’t all have the luxury of owning an expensive coffee shop grinder, so we can grind it for you to suit your brewing method. If you intend to use your coffee for espresso, we recommend that we grind the coffee for you, as espresso machines are very sensitive to the fineness of the grind. Fortunately, filter style coffee apparatus, like a cafetière or AeroPress, is less temperamental than an espresso machine, so you may find home grinders fine for this style of coffee and be better off ordering whole beans, thereby prolonging the freshness and taste of the coffee.

Roasting

We roast coffee weekly and let it ‘de-gas’ for several days, at which point it is ready to package and ship. De-gassing is an important part of coffee flavour development, and it is sensible to let the coffee ‘de-gas’ for at least 5 days from the date of roast before drinking it, but we have certainly broken that rule when we have wanted a fix! We will put a roast date on your coffee bag for traceability, and the decision will be yours.

Packaging & Shipping

The bags will be either 250g or 500g kraft bags, with a valve. Our logo will be stamped on the packaging, along with a roast date, and a small information card clipped to the bag which will give you more details about the coffee you are drinking. A copy of your order/invoice will be included in the package, for your records. P&P is free when you spend £28 or more.
